Beka from Georgia

Interviewee: Beka Eristavi
Interviewer: Nino Gergeshelidze

What was the reason for choosing RheinAhrCampus from so many options which Tbilisi State University gives to its students?
To be honest, I was always fond of Germany and its educational system. Thus chose RheinAhrCampus due to the courses that were practical and offering different learning approach.

What were the main benefits you gained from spending a semester in RheinAhrCampus?
Thanks to Sprachen/Internationales marvelous team, those four persons who were the main catalysts during 5 months path of my improvement.
Practical experience from Internship – became more responsible, risk taker and independent that reflected in my everyday life.
Integration with the global community.
During living abroad, since I was facing and struggling the everyday life myself, I realized my objectives and became self-confident as never before.

Is the influence of studying abroad still helping you to lead your life in a better way?
After I arrived in Georgia, I found out my time management skills more developed and have never decreased the pace of life. Thus I got more motivated and seeking challenges all the time.
I wanted to never be depended on my family financially anymore, hence I got more qualified in the finances and MS Office programs and got that job every two out of three students dream in Georgia and abroad too (EY-one of big four accounting firms).

What are the top 5 things, which you miss from studying abroad?
My roommate Ibra from Jordan, who will visit Georgia in summer.
Studying atmosphere and environment that differs from my home university.
Germany itself, as one of the respective and developed countries in Europe, with friendly people.
I miss the nature-friendly cities and active lifestyle.
I miss chilling out near the shores of river Rhein and traveling abroad.

What do you think, how did studying in RheinAhrCampus help you in your future career?
I realized internship more helpful. Because German people are much more detail-oriented and punctual than other nations. They respect each other’s time and needs. I was writing down all my “faulty habits” and tried to correct them.  I will never forget Mr. Borgmann’s speech scolding me when I had not warned him beforehand about missing out my internship shift. That day made me thousand times responsible both in life and at work. I never let the problems grow, kill them on the initiation stage.

What are the things which you would change if you had the possibility?
I have the possibility and aim to take a master degree in Europe, after 2-3 years of practical job experience. One semester in Germany is a pretty nice precondition.

What can you say about the differences between students’ life in Germany and Georgia?
At our universities courses are less practical and more theoretical than in Germany. We do not have campuses with dorms, where students live. Thus dream about real students’ life like in American movies still stays unrealized.

What recommendations do you have for the student who has a willingness to study in RheinAhrCampus?
Take the internship! Try to take responsibilities and do your best to fulfill your task. One semester will pass away and use time effectively. Establish a relationship with at least 3 people, better with cars to drive you during emergency situations (joking). Don’t lose your identity that makes RAC diversified. Don’t miss beautiful views of Cologne, Bonn and Koblenz every week.
