Ana from Georgia

Interviewee: Ana Gobechia
Interviewer: Nino Gergeshelidze

What was the reason for choosing RheinAhrCampus from so many options which Tbilisi State University gives to its students?
The main reason for that was the opportunity that Rheinahrcampus gives students - internship and German recommendation letter. For that time I did not know a lot about other benefits.

What were the main benefits you gained from spending a semester in RheinAhrCampus?
I got so many benefits from that semester, I had a chance to take part in international projects, like MCD which was the best workshop I have ever attended. Participants were from 22 different countries and being in the absolutely intercultural environment allowed me to put my intercultural knowledge into practice. Above-mentioned Internship and also courses were more practical and were not only theory-oriented and that was so important for me. During the one course working with refugees and homeless people totally changed my attitudes to life. I should also mention traveling opportunities, some of the excursions were funded by the University and Erasmus and It’s an advantage too.

Is the influence of studying abroad still helping you to lead your life in a better way?
It does, you will become an independent person who knows what she wants in future and believes in herself. In my case, it happened.

What are the top 5 things, which you miss from studying abroad?
My international Family - Erasmus Family, that made my semester more interesting. My bicycle and bike tours across the river Rhein indeed. :d My Traveling weekends, even after tiring week full of exams stress spent in another country. Just rhythm of life. And at last everything and every special moment.

What do you think, how did studying in RheinAhrCampus help you in your future career?
The intercultural experience I got in Rheinahrcampus is the key and it helps me so far. Companies require to have work experience and of course, my internship at Sprachen Internationales gives me a plus. And of course I developed so many skills while studying and working as an intern there.

What is the thing which you would change if you had the possibility?
I would not change anything!

What can you say about the differences between students’ life in Germany and Georgia?
As for student’s life in Germany, I mentioned that I missed the rhythm of life, I was never tired and had always time for fun and traveling. In Germany, you are surrounded by people from all over the world and it makes every process more interesting. Intercultural environment widens your mind. Most students live in shared flats (WG), I also had a chance to experience this way of living and it made me grow up, personally. In Georgia students usually, live with their parents. You can’t travel like in Germany in the center of Europe, in spite of the fact that we already have visa liberalization. It is not cheap enough yet for students. In Germany, you have a semester ticket - free transportation in neighboring cities. University always prepares parties for its students in and out of campus.

What recommendations do you have for the student who has a willingness to study in RheinAhrCampus?
If you have doubts about applying you don’t have to, trust me, do it, you will never regret. Use the possibility of internship and take various courses as it’s suggested. If you want to have a life-changing experience and do not want to become lazy during Erasmus semester, because I heard that from my friends they don’t have to do such different things. You should prioritize what you want. And if you are interested in Marketing you will have so many options to get into it.
